In what appeared to be an isolated incident, Georgia Tech guard Jose Alvarado was subject to a racist taunt during the second half of the Yellow Jackets’ game against Syracuse Saturday night at the Carrier Dome.

While Alvarado was shooting free throws, a fan in the Syracuse student section yelled at Alvarado to “go back to Mexico.” The fan was chided by others in the section, and the taunt was not repeated.

It is not clear if it was heard by Alvarado, who was at the other end of the court. Many members of Alvarado’s family were also at the game, as Alvarado is from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Syracuse and Tech both declined to comment on the matter.
