With Georgia Tech’s spring practice beginning Monday, we’ll take a look at each position group and how the depth stacks up for the Yellow Jackets. Players will be rated as starting, competing or depth.
At linebacker, there’s a lot up in the air. Returning starter Brant Mitchell figures to keep his job, and the other spot (or two) could be earned in the spring and in preseason camp. The impending arrivals of three noteworthy signees could keep the competition going well into August.
Brant Mitchell: Starting
With one season as a full-time starter under his belt, Mitchell faces the challenge to consistently make more of an impact.
Victor Alexander: Competing
Going into his junior season, he’s a promising candidate to start and fill the spot vacated by P.J. Davis.
David Curry: Competing
He made one start last season and was productive as a special-teams player.
Terrell Lewis: Competing
He’s shown playmaking ability and started three games last season, but he’ll be in a tough fight for a starting job.
Jakob Brashear: Depth
After redshirting last season, this spring will be valuable for him to gain experience before a talented group of freshmen enroll.
Tyler Cooksey: Depth
He was the defensive scout-team player of the year last season, evidence of the respect coaches have for him.
Tre Jackson: Depth
Undersized, likely will make his biggest impact on special teams.
Incoming freshmen: Jaquan Henderson, Bruce Jordan-Swilling, T.D. Roof.
