College football mascots: Trees & other woodland creatures

These are the trees, nuts and woodland creatures that populate college football.

Bucky Badger is the mascot of the Wisconsin Badgers.

Mascot Brutus Buckeye of Ohio State. The buckeye is the official state tree of Ohio.

Stanford's team name is Cardinal, referring to the red color. It's mascot is the Stanford Tree, in one of its many shapes, because the school could find no other way to illustrate red.

Oregon State's mascot, Benny Beaver, is closely linked to Oregon's prominence in the early American fur trade.

The Syracuse Orange mascot, Otto the Orange - an anthropomorphic orange was officially adopted in 1995.

The Baylor Bears mascots are kept in a habitat of the Texas school campus and are named Joy and Lady.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers mascot, Big Red - a red, furry blob meant to symbolize school spirit.
