Byerly scores on first play of season, Burden taken out of game

Sept 6, 2014

Georgia Tech quarterback Tim Byerly made his first appearance of the season, coming in on a third-and-goal situation on the Tulane 1-yard line in the first quarter. Byerly, a tough inside runner, followed blocks by B-back Zach Laskey, right guard Shaquille Mason and tackles Chris Griffin and Bryan Chamberlain (who was flopped to the right side from his usual spot on the left) to get into the end zone. He did not return for the remainder of the first half.

Freshman center Andrew Marshall played the final two series of the second quarter in place of starter Freddie Burden, his first action in a college game. Burden was injured with an upper-body injury and was questionable for the second half. Tackle Errin Joe also played in one series in the quarter, subbing for left tackle Bryan Chamberlain.
