Brian Newberry has agreed to join Brian Bohannon’s staff at Kennesaw State as defensive coordinator.

Newberry spent the past season at Northern Michigan, which plays football on the Division II level.

He spent the previous season at Sewanee, where he was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Before that, he was defensive backs coach at Elon from 2007-11. He also coached at Washington & Lee (2004-06), Lehigh (2003) and Southern Arkansas (1999-2000).

He played at Baylor, where he was a defensive back.

Newberry becomes the sixth assistant hired by Bohannon since being tabbed to run the start-up program earlier this year. Bohannon has also hired offensive coordinator Grant Chesnut, A-backs assistant Tim Glanton, quarterbacks and B-backs coach Brett Gilliland and yet-to-be-assigned assistants Liam Klein and Shane Bowen. Jay Bailey was also hired as director of football operations.
