Georgia Southern’s football team will open its Sun Belt slate at South Alabama, according to the schedule released by the league office on Thursday.
The conference highlights include a Wednesday game at defending champs Arkansas State on Oct. 5 that will be on ESPN2, a Thursday game vs. Appalachian State on Oct. 29 that will be on ESPNU, and the rivalry game at Georgia State on Nov. 19.
The game scheduled for Nov. 12 against Louisiana-Lafayette may move to Nov. 10 and be on ESPNU.
The Eagles went 9-4, 6-2 last season. Its only Sun Belt losses came at Appalachian State and at home to Georgia State. Georgia Southern defeated Bowling Green 58-27 in the GoDaddy Bowl, its first bowl game.
The team, led by new coach Tyson Summers, returns several key players including quarterbacks Kevin Ellison and Favian Upshaw.
The non-conference games against Savannah State, Western Michigan, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss were already announced.
The schedule:
Sept 3 vs. Savannah State. The Hornets went 1-9 overall, 1-7 in the MEAC last season.
Sept. 10 at South Alabama. The Eagles defeated the Jaguars 55-17 last season.
Sept. 17 vs. Louisiana-Monroe. The Eagles defeated the Warhawks 51-31 last season.
Sept. 24 at Western Michigan. The Broncos went 8-5 overall, 6-2 last season in the Mid-American Conference
Oct. 5 at Arkansas State. The Red Wolves went 8-0 in the Sun Belt last season.
Oct. 15 at Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets nipped the Eagles 42-38 in 2014.
Oct. 22 at New Mexico State. The Aggies went 3-9 overall, 3-5 in the Sun Belt last season.
Oct. 29 vs. Appalachian State. The Eagles were beaten by the Mountaineers 31-13 in Boone, N.C. last season.
Nov. 5 at Ole Miss. The Rebels went 10-3 overall, 6-2 last season and are losing several key starters from last year's Sugar Bowl champs.
Nov. 10 or 12 vs. Louisiana-Lafayette. The Cajuns went 4-8 overall, 3-5 last season.
Nov. 19 at Georgia State. The Eagles were beaten by the Panthers 34-7 last season.
Dec. 3 vs. Troy. The Eagles defeated the Trojans 45-10 last season.
