David Travers is leaving Georgia State’s men’s basketball program after spring semester. Coach Ron Hunter said Travers is homesick, something that began to surface around the Christmas break.

Hunter said Travers is supposed to leave in good academic standing and may transfer to play Division III basketball either in California or New York, where he has family.

A freshman from Carlsbad, Calif., Travers averaged 1.9 points in 8.5 minutes per game backing up Devonta White.

Hunter said Travers is a “quality kid” and said more than once the decision was mutual. Hunter said he wants the team to develop a better bench and perimeter toughness.

“To be a postseason team, our bench has to get better,” he said. “Our top six is good, but our bench has to get better.”

Three point guards are scheduled to visit next week, including Isaiah Dennis of Eagle’s Landing. Finding a point guard is a priority because White will be a senior next season.
