After hearing that Florida will bring in Rutgers transfer Eli Carter, back-up point guard Braxton Ogbueze decided it was time to leave.

Ogbueze did not play much for Florida as a freshman last year and did not foresee that changing this season. He announced his intent to transfer Wednesday and is no longer with the program.

He played in 23 of UF’s 37 games and totaled 19 points.

Carter, who will be a junior, is hoping the NCAA will grant him immediate eligibility at Florida because he left Rutgers in the wake of an unusual controversy. Former coach Mike Rice was fired because of physical and verbal abuse of players.

Carter averaged 14.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season.
