Casey Turgeon drove in Harrison Bader on a fielder’s choice for the go-ahead run in the top of the 15th inning Saturday, lifting Florida to a 4-3 victory over Missouri in Columbia, Mo., that extended the Gators’ winning streak to eight.
Florida’s bullpen tossed 12 2/3 scoreless innings, with sophomore Bobby Poyner (2-0) of Wellington earning the win. Poyner retired the final batter in the 14th. Sophomore Johnny Magliozzi pitched the 15th and induced a game-ending groundout with runners on second and third base to nail down his 11th save of the season.
With the score tied at 3 in the 15th, Bader reached on a one-out fielding error by Missouri third baseman Shane Segovia. Cody Dent of Boynton Beach followed with a single into center, and freshman Richie Martin drew a walk to load the bases. Turgeon’s grounder to second base drove in Bader with the go-ahead run, completing a comeback from a 3-0 deficit.
Turgeon, who also had two run-scoring singles, finished with three hits and three RBIs. Keaton Steele hit a two-run homer for Missouri.
The Gators (22-18, 10-7 SEC), who beat Missouri 8-6 on Friday night, will go for a three-game sweep of the Tigers (12-22, 4-13) at 1 p.m. today.
No. 7 Virginia 9-2, No. 6 Florida State 2-0: Scott Silverstein and Kyle Crockett combined to one-hit the Seminoles (31-8, 13-7 ACC) in the second game of a doubleheader, lifting the host Cavaliers (34-6, 15-5) to a 2-0 victory and a sweep. Virginia won 9-2 in the first game.
In the second game, Silverstein (7-0), a senior left-hander, allowed one hit and three walks in seven innings while striking out six. Crockett worked a perfect final two innings for his eighth save. The Seminoles’ only hit was Seth Miller’s double in the second inning.
FSU sophomore left-hander Brandon Leibrandt (5-4) lost despite throwing the first complete game of his career. He allowed two unearned runs while giving up four hits and three walks in eight innings. Leibrandt struck out seven.
In the first game, FSU sophomore right-hander Luke Weaver (4-1) allowed a career-high seven runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He gave up two-run homers to Nick Howard, Derek Fisher and Brandon Downes.
The teams are scheduled to complete the three-game series at 1 p.m. today.
Miami 2, No. 20 Clemson 1: Bryan Radziewski allowed one run and two hits in seven innings while striking out 10 to help the host Hurricanes (26-16, 9-11 ACC) edge the Tigers (27-12, 13-7) and even the series at one win apiece.
Radziewski, a junior left-hander, walked four and improved to 6-1 on the season.
Alex Hernandez hit a go-ahead single for Miami in the fifth inning and went 2-for-4.
Palm Beach State 5, Brevard 2: Ryan Church was 2-for-3 and scored two runs to lift the Panthers (34-18) in the title game of the Southern Conference tournament in Lake Worth. Palm Beach State will compete in the state tournament in Lakeland, which will begin May 10.
