Organizers of the Publix Georgia Marathon are slowly checking things off their to-do list with one week remaining until the event.

The marathon will start at 7 a.m. March 18. The runners will start on Marietta Street in front of the CNN building and finish in Centennial Olympic Park. More than 18,000 runners are expected to compete, including Jynocel Basweti of Marietta, the two-time defending champ.

Before then, there are plenty of activities:

  • The winning design for the race T-shirt will be announced Tuesday at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta.
  • A proclamation from the Atlanta City Council will be read during halftime of the Hawks game Friday.
  • The Publix Georgia Marathon Health and Fitness Expo will be held from noon-7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the Georgia World Congress Center.
  • A 5K and kids fun run will be held Saturday at Centennial Park. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. and the kids run will begin at 9 a.m.
