The Braves 400 Fan Club will host its 51st annual winter Gameboree banquet and fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 14, , at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Century Hotel. The theme is “A New Beginning: Turner Field to SunTrust Park.” A gala reception, silent auction and raffle of Braves memorabilia begins at 5 p.m. with the awards dinner and program following at 6:30 p.m. Newly elected Baseball Hall of Fame member John Schuerholz will keynote the evening.
Manager Brian Snitker and Hall of Famer Phil Niekro will be special guests. Braves broadcaster Jim Powell will emcee the program.
Phil Niekro College Scholarships will be awarded to Clark Atlanta University and Mercer University. Former Braves and Reds infielder Darrel Chaney will receive the Luke Appling Nostalgia Award. The 2016 Metro Atlanta High School Player of the Year will be presented to Josh Lowe from Pope High School. Matt Gonzalez from Georgia Tech will receive the Jason Varitek Most Outstanding Scholar Athlete in Georgia Award. Recipients for outstanding performances by Braves minor leaguers in 2016 are Patrick Weigel, Dustin Peterson, Michael Soroka, and Randy Ingle. The Ivan Allen, Jr. “Mr. Baseball” Award recipient will be announced at the banquet.
