Beat add four, including Solo

The Beat signed four players, including goalkeeper Hope Solo, from St. Louis Athletica, which folded last week.

The Beat also signed defender Tina Ellertson, the Women's Professional Soccer league's leading scorer, Eniola Aluko and midfielder Lori Chalpuny. In other moves, the team placed No. 1 draft pick Tobin Heath on season-ending injury reserve and released Lauren Sesselmann and Marisha Schumacher Hodge.

Solo, a member of the U.S. national team, was named the WPS goalkeeper of the year in 2009. Aluko, who has four goals in six games, will partner with Ramona Bachmann up front. Ellertson will join Kia McNeill in the center of the defense. Chalpuny has played 92 times for the U.S. national team.

The Beat next play at Chicago at 6 p.m. Sunday.
