The Hawks selected Jeff Teague, a guard out of Wake Forest, with the 19th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft. As a rookie, Teuage played in 71 games (making three starts) and averaged 3.2 points, 1.7 assists and 0.9 rebounds in 10.1 minutes.

In his second year as the Hawks' guard, Jeff Teague averaged 5.2 points, 2.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 13.8 minutes.

In his third season in Atlanta, Jeff Teague started all 66 games, averaging 12.6 points, 4.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 33.1 minutes. He ranked eighth in the NBA with 106 steals.

In 2012–13, Jeff Teague recorded career-highs of 14.6 points and 7.2 assists, along with 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 32.9 minutes.

In his final season with Atlanta, Jeff Teague averaged 15.7 points, 5.9 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 28.5 minutes per game.
