Former Hawks center Dikembe Mutombo, who will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sept. 11, will be honored by Fulton County tomorrow in a ceremony at the Government Center Atrium.

The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday.

Mutombo is being honored by Fulton County Board of Commissioners and the Hawks for his success on the basketball court and for his humanitarian efforts. In fact, Mutombo is departing for China from the event on such a humanitarian cause ahead of his induction ceremony in Springfield, Mass.

“We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments and career of a man who excelled on the court and off,” Fulton County Board of Commissioners Chairman John Eaves said in a statement. “Dikembe Mutombo’s most significant legacy is away from basketball for his humanitarian work for those in need.”

Mutombo played for the Hawks from 1996-2001 as part of an 18-year NBA career.
