Tim Tebow fans in Georgia will have a chance to see the former Florida Gators star play up close in April.

The Heisman Trophy-winner turned baseball player was promoted to the New York Mets' low Single-A team, the Columbia Fireflies, Mets' Manager Terry Collins announced Monday.

Tebow and the Fireflies, located in Columbia, S.C., will open their season April 6 with a four-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets in Columbia, but will travel to Augusta’s Spirit Communications Park for four more games April 13-16.

The Fireflies will also play a three-game series against the Rome Braves at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, Ga.

A quarterback who took Florida to two national championships, Tebow hit 4-for-20 during spring training after signing with the Mets on Sept. 8.

Tebow, 29, is expected to wear No. 15 with the Fireflies — the number he wore with the Gators and in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.
