10 things to know about Braves' Eddie Perez

Longtime Braves coach Eddie Perez is a candidate for a managerial openings in baseball.

Eddie Perez, who has been a member of the Braves' coaching staff since 2007, is a candidate for a number of managerial openings in baseball. Perez played catcher for nine seasons, sharing duties with a number of notable Braves, including Javy Lopez, Johnny Estrada and Brian McCann.

Eddie Perez made his first major league start as a member of the Atlanta Braves against the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 15, 1995. His first major league hit came in the seventh inning of the game off Reds' reliever Michael Jackson - a two-run homer to deep left field. Perez was a .253 hitter in 11 seasons in the majors.

Eddie Perez was in the Braves' minor league system for nearly a decade before he made it to the major league roster. He played backstop in 358 games in Atlanta and held a .991 career fielding percentage.

Eddie Perez began his tenure with the Braves as back up catcher behind Javy Lopez. He was the primary catcher on days Hall of Famer Greg Maddux took the mound.

Eddie Perez has served many jobs with the Atlanta Braves. Pérez was a player-coach for the Double-A Mississippi Braves. He served as the team's bullpen coach for a handful of seasons, and as the Braves' first-base coach this season. He has even been been a member of the grounds crew -- something he always "wanted to do."

Eddie Perez is an entertainer and can juggle. As Braves bullpen coach he would frequently engage with fans seated in right field.

Eddie Perez was on the roster when the Braves won the 1995 World Series but did not play. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1999 National League Championship Series.

A native of Venezuela, Eddie Perez - along with his wife and daughter became naturalized U.S. citizens on Aug. 13, 2014 - more than 20 years after first moving to Atlanta.

The Braves drafted Eddie Perez's son, Andres Perez - a 6-foot-7, 260-pound catcher - in the 2016 amateur baseball draft. The younger Perez graduated from Pinecrest Academy and committed to playing at North Georgia College.

Eddie Perez spent nine of his 11 seasons in the majors with the Braves. He was traded by Atlanta to Cleveland before the 2002 season. Perez played the 2003 season with the Milwaukee Brewers before returning to the Braves for his final two years as a player.
