Braves manager Brian Snitker said reports are positive regarding lefty reliever Jonny Venters and lefty starter Sean Newcomb, who are at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Venters has been sidelined with a right calf strain since April 15. He’s made three scoreless appearances for the Stripers, most recently Monday. He is expected to throw again Wednesday.

“It was really good,” Snitker said Tuesday before the Braves’ game against the Padres. “His outings have all been really solid, lot of strikes, indicative of what we wanted to see. Been really good reports on him.”

Newcomb has made three starts since he was sent down to work on his control issues. He has not allowed a hit in his past two starts.

“All the reports are really good,” Snitker said. “I told him when he left that sometimes you have to take a step back to take two forward. He’s definitely doing that.”
