How the game was won: After scoring two runs in five innings against Braves rookie Matt Wisler, the Padres torched Atlanta's bullpen for five runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, with Melvin Upton Jr. hitting two-run homers in each of those innings against his former team. Wisler (5-3) hasn't won in four August starts, and the Braves have lost 17 of their past 19 road games. Yangervis Solarte added a three-run homer in the sixth for the Padres, who haven't lost at home against the Braves in nearly three years and go for their third consecutive home-series sweep against them Wednesday.

Number: 9. Consecutive losses for the Braves at Petco Park. They last won in San Diego on Aug. 28, 2012, when Kris Medlen pitched eight scoreless innings for the Braves.

What's next: The Braves and Padres close a three-game series with a 3:40 p.m. game at Petco Park, where Julio Teheran (8-6, 4.44 ERA) faces San Diego right-hander Tyson Ross (8-9, 3.40).
