Sean Newcomb pitched five shutout innings and Ryan Howard had a run-scoring single but the Gwinnett Braves lost to the host Rochester Red Wings 5-4 Tuesday night.

Newcomb allowed two hits, walked four and struck out six.

Rio Ruiz homered for Gwinnett (11-6).

Fayette County native Niko Goodrum hit a two-run homer for Rochester (9-7).

Howard was 1-for-4. His hit went to left field against a defensive shift.
