A look at some ultimate Braves fans

Catcher Brian McCann wasn't just an instant hit with former Braves pitcher John Smoltz when he was called up back in 2005. A group of die-hard fans -- McCann's Cans -- decked themselves out appropriately and feted the Duluth native during games at Turner Field.

Woodstock native Jean Renard, a huge fan of the Braves magazine Chop Talk, has every issue ever published.

When right fielder and former Parkview High star athlete Jeff Francoeur was first called up to the Atlanta Braves, a group of fans calling themselves "Francoeur's Franks" would dress in hot dog suits and cheer on the local boy made good in the outfield seats.

She was the true ultimate Braves fan. The late Pearl Sandow (right) leads a cheer with Chief Noc-A-Homa in 1982 at Atlanta Stadium, the former home of the Braves. In 2002, Sandow, then 100, was honored by the team as the Braves Best Fan.

Yes We McCann: The Cans cheer on the Braves back in May 2006 against the Marlins at Turner Field.

Before McCann's Cans and Francoeur's Franks, Sheff's Chefs started the Braves fan trend of donning special dress to salute a certain player. The Chefs honored then-Brave Gary Sheffield and got to meet their hero in 2003.

Nestled in the shadow of Turner Field, Our Lady of Perpetual Help hospice houses some of the Braves' most faithful fans - literally. In this 1992 photo, Sister Mary Rafael (right) and Sister Mary Christopher cheer on the boys next door.

In 2003, these hardcore Braves baseball fans visited the site at the now-demolished Atlanta Stadium where the "miracle Braves" beat the Pirates for a trip to the 1992 World Series and celebrated with cake and by replaying a tape of the radio broadcast at the site where home plate had been located. They shouted for joy when the late Skip Caray made the famous "... and he is... SAFE!" call of Sid Bream's winning slide into home plate.

Back in October 2005, Camp Creek Elementary teacher Sarah Swingle asked her class to write something about Jeff Francoeur, who attended the school as a boy, and here's what student Archie Clark had to say about his future presidential hopeful, Frenchy.

McCann's Cans were quite a sight at the 2007 Braves Winter FanFest.
