The Braves have designated Kelly Johnson for a rehab assignment starting Monday with Triple-A Gwinnett.

Johnson, who is on the 15-day disabled list, had been the team’s home run leader, with six in 81 at-bats, before he left the May 13 game against the Cincinnati Reds with a strained oblique. He had started 14 of the previous 16 games before his injury and had been hitting .273 and slugging .576 in May.

Todd Cunningham and Jonny Gomes have platooned in left field since Johnson’s injury.
