Braves utilityman Johan Camargo hasn’t recovered at the rate the team hoped in his recovery from a fractured right shin.

“He’s not progressing as quick as we’d liked,” manager Brian Snitker said. “He’s still having trouble putting total weight on it. So I don’t know. I guess there’s still hope (he could come back at some point) but as of right now, he’s still really sore and having trouble moving around a little bit.”

Camargo has been sidelined since Sept. 13 after fouling a ball off his shin. The Braves never ruled him out for the season, but given that Camargo is still in pain, it’s extremely unlikely he’ll return even if the Braves advance beyond the National League Division Series.

“As of right now, it hasn’t healed - gotten to the point they thought he was going to be,” Snitker said.

A Swiss Army knife in the field, Camargo persisted through a down year with the bat, but still provided value with his versatility. He was playing better after his return from a stint in Triple-A Gwinnett, going 5-for-11 with two doubles and two homers in his last nine games.

The Braves’ bench was further weakened when it also lost Charlie Culberson for the year with a fracture cheekbone Sept. 14, leaving the team without its two key bench contributors in the playoffs.
