The temperature was 27 degrees for the first pitch of the Braves’ series opener Friday at Colorado, making it the second-coldest game in the 23-year history of Coors Field.

Coincidentally, the Braves also played in the coldest game at the downtown Denver ballpark – 23 degrees for the first game of a doubleheader April 23, 2013. The temperature was 30 degrees for the second game of that doubleheader, the fifth-coldest game at Coors Field.

The first pitch Friday was delayed 61 minutes because of snow, which was still falling lightly when Ozzie Albies homered on the second pitch he saw to start a four-run first inning for the Braves.

Albies, who is from the tiny island nation of Curacao, had never seen snow until it began falling Friday morning while the Braves were getting ready for the game.
