Braves quotes after 3-2 victory over Brewers on Sunday at Turner Field.

FREDI GONZALEZ

On leaving Mike Foltynewicz in to pitch the eighth inning

I think we took him as far as we could take him. I think he did a terrific job and everybody else did their job, too. We got (A.J.) Pierzynski with a fielder’s choice RBI and (Andrelton) Simmons with a two-out RBI and that’s all the runs we needed, really. To come in here and go 4-2 on the home stand is a real nice home stand before we get on the bird and go west.

On if this was Foltynewicz’s best outing

I think so. Boy, he was dominant, really, the whole game. It’s a good start to build on for the next one.

On Foltynewicz pounding the zone

You can do that when you are throwing 95 and 97 miles an hour. He had his breaking ball over. I thought A.J. did a terrific job handling him.

On if his curveball looked good

I have a tough time figuring out a curveball from a slider because that’s how close they are but his curveball, they were sharp. They had some nice bite to them. His fastball command, him pounding the plate—I think he had 65 pitches going into the seventh inning. HE got himself in a little trouble in the seventh inning and gout out of it. We were trying to go hitter to hitter with him in the eighth to see how far we could take him and then Avi (Luis Avilan) came in and did a nice job getting Gerardo Parra out.

On pitching carrying you during the home stand

Our offense is our offense. We are going to be an offense that just scratches some runs. The offense that scored seven in an inning a couple nights ago, that’s not our everyday offense. We’re an offense that can hit and run, do some stuff, put some balls in play. It’s all about the pitching. You get a good pitching performance and you are in the game and you can do some stuff offensively to score runs.

CAMERON MAYBIN

On the home stand

I was just talking with Andrelton (Simmons) and saying that’s a good home stand. We really needed to play as well as we did here. WE had been struggling a little bit back and forth here. A great home stand to take some momentum and confidence on the road and try to keep it going. We’ve got some big road series coming up.

On winning three out of four against struggling opponent

It doesn’t matter. You don’t play baseball games on paper. They came out and they fought, they grinded. Their pitchers did a great job of battling and we did a great job of staying in each and every game and finding a way to win.

On Foltynewicz

He’s impressive. I’ve got a really view and it seems like every outing gets better and better. He did a great job of controlling the strike zone today, going right after guys. Whenever a guy is putting up zeros we’ve got to find a way to manufacture some runs, and we did.

On if he misread Khris Davis’ single in the seventh

Not really. It was a tough ball. I think he kind of top-spinned it. A long way to go, I was trying to play him (opposite field), he pulled it. But ‘Folty’ came right back, made his pitches, got guys out.

On having a good month at the plate and starting the really in the sixth inning

I feel fine. I’m still growing, still a work in progress. I was a little upset about that at-bat before. It was a bad at-bat. I had the green light to hit but I should have stayed with my gut and just move guys over and let Freddie (Freeman) and Nicky (Markakis) hit. That at-bat was huge because it was still 0-0, I gave away a chance to put runners in scoring position. So it was huge for me to just get on and try my best to really put together a good at-bat and I was able to. We took advantage and that is something we have been doing is take advantage when we get runners in scoring position.

MIKE FOLTYNEWICZ

On going back out to pitch in the eighth inning

I had a low pitch count. I was attacking the zone from the beginning. The defense played great behind me. I was attacking the zone with the fastball and getting early outs. The slider and the curveball were working OK. They got a couple good hits off me at the end. A.J. had a good gameplan going in and we stuck with it and got guys out.

On if this was his best outing

I’ve felt better in previous starts but overall this was a good game for me. I attacked the zone and got guys out early. I had a low pitch count there for a while and that’s a good sign for me. I kept the walks down and tried to get guys out in the first couple pitches of the at-bat.

On taking three our of four

The team battled this whole series and its’ awesome to come out with the series win. We’ve got to out to L.A. and go battle in this 10-game road series. It will be fun.

On getting back in rhythm after long bottom of the sixth inning

There were a couple other times when we had long innings I went out there and kind of struggled a little bit. I stayed moving in the dugout and Roger (McDowell) said go out and get a few extra pitches and get the arm loose. I’m glad I went out there after that long inning and got some quick outs.
