On if Julio Teheran ran out of gas in the eighth inning
Well I don’t think he ran out of gas, I think he just got himself into trouble. I think that’s the third start in a row going back to San Francisco that we can’t get him through an inning there when we needed to. That was a weird eighth inning. The first three guys get on and they score a run without putting a ball in play. We kind shot ourselves in the foot there. But that was the whole game really. I mean, we go out there, we get one, two, three, we hand the ball off to (Jason) Grilli, we don’t blow up the bullpen, and we have a chance to win the series. A winning homestand – and that didn’t happen.”
On the catcher’s interference call in the eighth
It hits the glove, it’s catcher’s interference. You can review it or anything. I could hear it in the dugout. I don’t think it was any question. I haven’t seen the replay. I thought it was, just from hearing the noise in the dugout, I thought it was catcher’s interference.
On benches-clearing incident in the first
You know what, it’s just – day game, noon, one o’clock game. Guys are playing in the sandbox – two teams playing the sandbox. I think tempers flared a little bit, but we played the rest of the game with no problem. Nobody likes to get hit. We weren’t hitting (Matt Kemp) intentionally, I promise you that in a 1-2 count. Same thing a couple nights ago with Justin (Upton) in a 1-1 count with (Williams) Perez. That’s all I got on that, nothing more on that. Just two teams that got up early after a game last night a little cranky.
On bizarre play in seventh inning that saw Bud Black get ejected
Obviously I didn’t see what the umpires — I haven’t seen it on replay. They told me that it was a double-hit. It happened so fast and you can’t replay it and nobody saw it – the four umpires didn’t see it. So we got away with one there, after people come out of the replay room and say, ‘Hey that ball hit twice.’ So, we were fortunate to get out there with a couple runs and try to get the lead. We just couldn’t’ get out of that eighth inning.
On if Christian Bethancourt’s passed ball in the eighth was because of lack of focus
I don’t know. I’m thinking maybe that’s the first time he’s caught (Dana) Eveland. Maybe he hadn’t seen him and seen the ball. But again, that was a weird eighth inning. Three runs scored – the ball was not put into play until the last out of the inning. We battled, had a chance to get the win and we didn’t convert it when we had a chance to.
**CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT
On passed ball in the eighth
It’s my job to catch the ball and I didn’t. The ball got by, they scored the run and I have nothing to blame it on – anything. Just me, I’ve got to catch the ball. That’s what I’m back there for. If I don’t catch the ball, then things will happen.
On if he caught Eveland’s pitches at any point before the game
No, that was the first time I caught him.
On if he felt his glove got hit on the catcher’s interference call
“Yeah, but I wasn’t sure if it was the ball or if it was the bat, so that’s why I was arguing with the umpire.”

On Julio Teheran’s start
It’s the Julio of old. He was dominant throughout the game. He just made a couple of mistakes. He gave up a couple knocks right there. It’s just one of those games that got out of hand.
On the weird eighth inning
Yeah, it kind of seemed like the last four innings everything went their way. You’ve got a bunt that went over (Brandon Cunniff’s) head, a catcher’s interference. It’s just one of those games.
On if splitting the series is a positive
Yeah, they are a tough ball club but we had an opportunity to win that series today. It’s a little frustrating today. You can take positives but you always want to get more and get greedy.
On the benches clearing in the first inning after Teheran hit Matt Kemp with a pitch
It’s just one of those things. No one wants to get hit by any kind of pitch. With a 1-2 count, I’m sure it’s not on purpose. You get hit, you get a little upset. It’s going to happen.
On the next series at the Mets
We feel good about where we are at as a ball club. We’ve been playing good baseball. Hopefully we can continue that into tomorrow. Colon is usually tough against us so hopefully we can get the victory tomorrow.
**JULIO TEHERAN
On his outing
I think I pitched really good. The first inning I got in a little bit of trouble and they just got a little blopper (hit) on me. In the last one I got in a little trouble with two base hits and a walk. But I think I threw a really good game.
On how he felt in eighth inning
Good. I feel like I had my strength. I was ready to go. I was just trying to make pitches like I made in the inning before but they were swinging a little more.
On his slider
I feel like my slider and my changeup that I use a lot today. I think they worked really goos and my curveball too.
On if he had nothing left in eighth
No, no, I felt really good for that inning. I felt really confident when you see the manager give you the chance to go to the eighth. I wanted to get out. They were swinging a little more so I wasn’t able to get (out) of the inning.
On the benches clearing after he hit Kemp with the pitch
With two strikes I was trying to throw the same pitch that I threw before that he swinged (at) and he got upset. He got upset. It’s part of the game. I really got angry. I don’t want nobody get that with attitude with one of my teammates (Bethancourt).
On if there was carryover from Andrelton Simmons’ late slide on Tuesday
I wasn’t thinking about that. I don’t know if they were thinking that. I was just trying to pitch and win the game.
