Braves right-hander Mike Foltynewicz left the game in the fourth inning Monday when he was hit by a line drive struck by Marlins outfielder Marcell Ozuna.
Foltynewicz had little time to react when Ozuna hit the ball hard at him as he followed through on his delivery. The Braves said Foltynewicz suffered a bruise to his left calf.
Foltynewicz walked off the field after the injury but was using crutches after the game. He said the calf was “very swollen” and he will be evulauted after it subsides.
“The last two times I got hit it couldn’t have been in a better spot not to hurt anything too badly,” Foltynewicz said. “It didn’t hit any bone, it didn’t hit anything (structural). It was just a calf. It’s just very sore right now and we’ll just go day-by-day and take it from there.”
The Marlins had scored five runs in the inning to cut their deficit to 7-5. Ryan Weber relieved Foltynewicz and retired Justin Bour for the third out.
