Braves starting pitcher Mike Minor has progressed to long toss as he rehabilitates from shoulder issues that emerged during spring training.
Gonzalez said Minor recently threw 120 feet on flat ground for three rounds.
“It’s still long term but he’s close to getting back on the mound,” Gonzalez said.
Minor, a left-hander, was shut down for two weeks in March with rotator cuff inflammation and began the season on the 15-day disabled list. The Braves haven’t said when they expect Minor to return to the active roster.
This is the second consecutive year Minor was shut down during camp and started the season on the DL. In 2014 shoulder tendinitis cost him much of spring training and all of April before he labored through a career-worst season with a 4.77 ERA in 25 starts.
In 2013 Minor posted a 3.21 ERA in 32 starts (204 2/3 innings)
