The Braves designated right-hander Josh Collmenter for assignment hours he allowed seven runs in the 10th inning against the Pirates on Wednesday night. To fill the roster spot, the Braves recalled right-hander Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Pirates broke a tie against Collmenter in the 10th inning for a 12-5 victory Wednesday. Gift Ngoepe knocked an RBI double, Josh Harrison hit a run-scoring single and then David Freese, Jose Osuna and Jordy Mercer hit three consecutive home runs.

Collmenter, 31, has appeared in 11 games for the Braves this season (17 innings) and complied a 9.00 ERA. The Braves acquired Collmenter in a trade with the Cubs in September. After he posted a 2.37 ERA in three starts, the Braves re-signed him to a one-year deal with a base salary of $1.2 million.

Wisler, 24, rejoins the Braves for a second time this season. He recorded a 12.60 ERA in four relief appearances (five innings) during his first stint and pitched two scoreless innings against the Pirates on Thursday.

Collmenter didn’t give up the most earned runs in an inning for a Braves reliever during its Atlanta history. John Smoltz allowed eight runs in the ninth inning of a tie game against the Mets on April 6, 2002, with four of those runs charged to Smoltz after he was replaced by Aaron Small.

Taylor Phillips allowed nine earned runs in one inning during the 1957 season while pitching for the Milwaukee Braves against the Brooklyn Dodgers.
