CINCINNATI — Emilio Bonifacio's lack of production as a pinch hitter finally prompted the Braves to designate him for assignment Friday.

Over 38 games Bonifacio was batting .132 with a .150 on-base percentage, including 2-for-26 (.074) as a pinch hitter. He started one game in left field and one game in right.

The Braves released Bonifacio before the 2016 season and then re-signed him to a minor-league deal. He hit .211 with a .268 OBP in 24 games with the big-league club last season, and the Braves re-signed him to a free-agent contract following the season.
