Braves closer Craig Kimbrel isn’t likely to take the mound against the Mets on Wednesday night after pitching on three consecutive days.

The Braves have never used Kimbrel on four consecutive days in his four-plus seasons with the team. Kimbrel also made an appearance on Friday at Philadelphia for four outings in five days.

“Not only has he done three (in a row) but prior to those three he has had some pretty heavy workloads,” Braves manager Fedi Gonzalez said. “He’s had a pretty good stretch of appearances.”

For the season, Kimbrel has pitched 34.1 innings in 36 appearances while posting a 2.10 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 15 walks. He’s converted 26 of 30 save opportunities.

Gonzalez said the only way Kimbrel might pitch Wednesday is in an emergency situation.

“If you’ve got to play 12 or 13 innings, he will call up (from the bullpen) and say, ‘Hey, let me pitch,” Gonzalez said.
