The Braves have added a second office building to the lineup for the mixed-use development adjacent to their new Cobb County stadium.

Construction work has "just begun" on a four-story loft-style office building next to what will become the previously announced Roxy Theatre entertainment venue, Braves executive vice president of sales and marketing Derek Schiller said.

The new stadium, SunTrust Park, is slated to open next year, along with the adjoining mix of shops, restaurants, residences, offices and a hotel.

The Braves last year announced cable giant Comcast would occupy all of the space, except for ground-floor restaurants, in a nine-story office tower overlooking the stadium. At the time, team officials said they had no immediate plans for an additional office building in the development, named The Battery Atlanta, but they left open the possibility.

“Once we started to test the marketplace a little bit more and present this option, we were getting very strong response for having loft office space,” Schiller said.

He declined to name any tenants for the second office building. He said there is “a substantial amount of interest and commitments.”

The building will have 80,000 square feet of office space and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, Schiller said.

The Braves previously envisioned a smaller retail building for that spot, which is on the north end of the plaza that will connect the stadium to the surrounding development.
