Atlanta Braves: Odds-on Hall of Famers?

Just for laughs, the AJC's Jeff Schultz offered his unofficial Hall odds list from the current Braves roster, starting with Chipper Jones (1-5). Schultz says: Jones should be a slam dunk inductee. He has over 400 home runs, 2,300 hits and a career .310 average. He hit .364 last season at the age of 36.

Brian McCann (15-1): What can you say about a player who has been selected as an All-Star four times in four seasons? No Brave had done that in even his first three seasons. McCann has a .297 career average and 557 hits in the equivalent of four full seasons. His consistency and maturity suggests he'll maintain that pace. -- Jeff Schultz

Tommy Hanson (25-1): OK. So after seven whole starts, I'm doing a little projecting. Hanson has Hall of Fame stuff and Hall of Fame cool. When he messes up, he doesn't get flustered -- uncommon maturity for a 22-year-old pitcher. And the early numbers: 4-0, 2.85 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 41 innings. I figure he'll eclipse 3,000 strikeouts in 2024. -- Jeff Schultz

Tim Hudson (35-1): He certainly was on a potential Hall of Fame pace after six seasons in Oakland: 92-39 record, 3.30 ERA, 200-plus innings four times, top-6 Cy Young voting three times, two All-Star games. But he has not been the dominant pitcher with the Braves he was expected to be (54-38, 3.78). -- Jeff Schultz

Field bet (100-1): You get Yunel Escobar...

... Kelly Johnson ...

... Jordan Schafer ...

... and the next great prospect up from Triple-A (maybe Jason Heyward in the future; he's in AA right now). We've learned to assume nothing. -- Jeff Schultz

Derek Lowe (150-1): Not going to happen. Not even sure why I put him on the list. I guess I feel compelled since he's the Braves' No. 1 starter. He's had a terrific career (134 wins) but certainly not Cooperstown worthy. At 36, he'd have to break into a sprint just to reach 200 wins. -- Jeff Schultz

We can safely assume at this point that Dale Murphy will not get in. -- Jeff Schultz
