He's just turned 20, but Mississippi Braves (AA) right fielder Jason Heyward is already generating major league buzz among Atlanta fans who want to know if (or when) he might be called to the bigs.

After being selected by the Braves in the first round of the June 2007 MLB Draft, Heyward took in batting practice at Turner Field, getting in a chat with then-Braves shortstop Edgar Renteria (right).

Heyward has played 32 games for Mississippi since being promoted from Class A Myrtle Beach. He's hitting .405 with six home runs and 24 RBIs. His on-base percentage is .485. His slugging percentage is .730. -- Mark Bradley, AJC

Heyward was a star outfielder at Henry County High in McDonough, Ga., and was AJC's Henry County Baseball Player of the Year in 2007.
