If this is what taking it slow looks like for Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman then it could mean big things once he gets back to full speed.

Freeman continued his hot start to the spring with a solo home run in his first-at bat against the Tigers on Thursday. Freeman doubled in his first at-bat during Tuesday's Grapefruit League exhibition opener and now is 2-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

Freeman missed 44 games last season because of a right wrist injury and lingering pain limited him to “dry” swings without a baseball until Dec. 31. He didn’t face live, overhead pitching until Saturday but so far has shown no signs of rust in games.

The plan is for Freeman to skip Friday’s game, get two at-bats on Saturday and then sit out the following two games before playing on Tuesday vs. the Mets. Next week he could get three at-bats in games and play on consecutive days.

“Everything is going good,” Freeman said. “No pain. I’ve got a consistent medical plan and that’s paying off big time. I would say we’re ahead of schedule. I’m kind of going off of feel, and I have no pain in my wrist right now. We are still taking it slow. I could be out there getting three at-bats right now.”
