MIAMI – The highest-paid player on the Braves payroll was the opening-day second baseman for the rival Nationals, Dan Uggla.

The Braves released Uggla last season and are still responsible for his $13.2 million salary this season, minus the prorated portion of the major league minimum salary ($507,500). It works out to nearly $12.7 million owed by the Braves.

After Melvin Upton and his $14.45 million salary for 2015 (and more than $46 million through 2017) were traded to the Padres along with Craig Kimbrel on Sunday, the highest salary being paid by the Braves to a player on the active roster is Nick Markakis, who is making $10.5 million this season in the first of a four-year, $44 million deal.

Pitcher Trevor Cahill, acquired from the Diamondbacks in a trade last week, has a $12 million salary this season, but Arizona is paying $6.5 million of that amount per terms of the trade.
