The opening match of the SheBelieves Cup will feature the U.S. women’s national team hosting Japan on April 6 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. The second match in the doubleheader will feature Canada and Brazil. It is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Grass will be installed at the stadium. An official announcement of the tournament schedule is expected Friday.
The second round of the tournament is scheduled to be played at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. Those matches are scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The U.S. will play in the second match regardless of its result in Atlanta.
The U.S., the tournament’s defending champion, is ranked No. 2 by FIFA, Japan is No. 8, Canada is No. 10 and Brazil is No. 11.
Tickets purchased for each game date will be valid for both matches on that match day. Tickets for the April 6 matches are scheduled go on sale Friday. More than 19,000 tickets were purchased in the presale for the matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Tickets will go on sale to the public Friday.
This will mark the third time the U.S. women will play in Atlanta. The team played twice at the Georgia Dome.
The SheBelieves Cup will mark the first of what should be a busy schedule of international matches in the Atlanta.
The opening match of the Copa America, featuring World Cup champ Argentina against either Canada or Trinidad & Tobago, is scheduled to be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on June 20. The U.S. men will play Panama in the tournament in Atlanta on June 27.
