Santiago Sosa confirmed Friday that he is joining Atlanta United.

Sosa confirmed the move in a tweet posted by journalist German Garcia Grova.

An Atlanta United spokesman declined to comment on the acquisition of the 21-year-old defensive midfielder. He’s the second player in a week to confirm on social media that he is joining the club, after Franco Ibarra did so last week.

Both players are defensive midfielders, or deep midfielders, which is an important position in new manager Gabriel Heinze’s system.

The acquisitions, if accurate, likely mean that the club is going to move either Eric Remedi or Mo Adams. Remedi reportedly has been linked to clubs in his native Argentina.

Sosa is joining from River Plate in Argentina. He made 21 appearances for the South American powers, as well as nine for Argentina’s U20 national team.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
