Atlanta United signed veteran centerback Florentin Pogba, pending the receipt of his international transfer certificate and his visa, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re pleased to officially welcome Florentin to our club,” Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said in a news release. “He’s a physical center back who also has the ability to play with his feet. He also brings an immense amount of experience after representing his club and country in various international tournaments and we expect him to compete for playing time on our backline.”

Pogba will add depth at centerback. The transfer will be free because he appears to be out of a contract.

Pogba was on the weekend flight with Atlanta United to Los Angeles for its training camp.

Pogba, 28, is the older brother of Paul Pogba, a standout midfielder for Manchester United and World Cup winner with France.

Florentin Pogba most recently played for Glenclerbirligi in Turkey. He previously played for Saint-Etienne and Sedan in France’s first division.

Pogba brings height (6-foot-3) and a strong left foot to a centerback group that includes Michael Parkhurst, Leandro Gonzalez Pirez, Miles Robinson and Jeff Larentowicz.
