Atlanta Tennis Championships: Day 1

Day 1 of the Atlanta Tennis Championships in Johns Creek.

Andy Roddick gets in some practice Monday during the opening day of the Atlanta Tennis Championships.

Fans gather to see Roddick, the ninth-ranked player in the world. The Championships are being held at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek.

Former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, currently ranked 30th, meets the press.

Some fans used umbrellas to fight off the sun while watching Monday's action.

Others like Chip George (left) and Sherri Musgrave tried to keep cool by waving hand-held fans.

Randy Bagley of Your Serve Tennis strings up a racket for John Isner, the former UGA player who made international headlines last month with his marathon match at Wimbledon.

Isner, who will play his first singles match later in the week, made his tournament debut in doubles action.

Mardy Fish of the United States played in his first singles match of the tournament, facing James Ward of Great Britian.
