The opposition: Jets rookie coach Robert Saleh

When the Falcons and Jets meet at 9:30 a.m. ET Sunday in London, the game will be another battle of rookie NFL head coaches.

The Falcons and Arthur Smith opened the regular season against first-year coach Nick Sirianni and the Eagles.

Robert Saleh, interviewed for the Falcons job, but landed the Jets’ job after a stint as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator.

Saleh also has former Falcons linebackers coach and play-caller Jeff Ulbrich on his staff as the defensive coordinator and former Falcons defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel as his defensive back/safeties coach.

Ulbrich (2015-20) and Manuel (2015-18) went against Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in practice

“They know me well,” Ryan said. “For sure I know both of those guys really well and have a ton of respect for both of them. I really enjoyed being around both of them while they were here. Brick (Jeff Ulbrich) was obviously here longer.”

Ulbrich will be calling the defense, which is aggressive.

“I feel like I had a great relationship with him,” Ryan said. “So, I think, I don’t know what they’re telling their guys about me, but I know I’m telling our guys that they’ll have their guys ready to play. (They’ll) play hard and play with great effort, and that’s shown up on the tape.”
