The Braves acquired outfielder J.P. Martinez from the Rangers on Friday in exchange for minor-league pitcher Tyler Owens.

Martinez made his major-league debut in 2023, batting .225 in 17 games with the Rangers. The right-handed Owens split time between Rome and Mississippi in 2023.

Martinez, who is on the 40-man roster, will serve as outfield depth for the Braves. He has minor-league options, which helps the Braves preserve depth in the event he doesn’t make the team out of spring training.

The Braves, barring anything unforeseen, are expected to go into opening day with a starting outfield of left fielder Jarred Kelenic, center fielder Michael Harris II and right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr.
