Former Syracuse lacrosse player Liam Banks has become the new head coach of the Atlanta Blaze, the team announced Monday.

The current Thunder LB3 partner and president of lacrosse operations, Banks was one of the key players in bringing a professional lacrosse team to Georiga.

The Blaze, who will begin their third season on April 22, finished the 2017 season 6-8, missing the playoffs and finishing second to last in Major League Lacross standings.

“This is an incredible opportunity for me to challenge myself professionally at the highest level of coaching with many of the best players in the world,” Banks said in a statement. “We hope to field a team for the Atlanta Blaze that embodies the same principles we strive to cultivate each day at Thunder LB3 with the goal of bringing home a Major League Lacrosse Championship in 2018. I love the city of Atlanta and I am humbled with the opportunity to be the head coach of the Atlanta Blaze.”

Banks replaces former Blaze coach Dave Huntley who died unexpectedly in December at the age of 60.

The Atlanta Blaze begin the 2018 season at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw on April 22. Season Tickets are available for purchase on the team's offical website.
