2011 Georgia Golden Olympics

A look at the first day of the Georgia Golden Olympics in Warner Robins.

More than 400 men and women from age 50-90 from Georgia, South Carolina and Florida have gathered in Warner Robins for the 28th annual Georgia Golden Olympics. In this race, 74-year-old Will Smith of Carrollton (center) edged George Ealer, 71, of Warner Robins and Doug Allen, 71, of South Carolina to capture the gold medal.

Mary Munnell, 70, of Athens competes in the shot put.

Don Albino, 63, of Johns Creek stretches for more as he competes in the long jump.

Elsie Franklin, 80, of Stone Mountain captured the shot put in her age division.

Charles Ross of Rockdale County (88 years old) won the long jump in his age division.

... and gives a comforting hug to granddaughter McKinley Towns, 3, as she waits for the long jump to begin. The Olympics will continue through Saturday and will also have competition in tennis, swimming, bowling, horseshoe tossing, shuffleboard and many other events.
