Franco broke into the majors a long time ago, in 1982 with the Phillies. The world was very different then but Franco is still playing baseball. Take a look back at life in 1982.

Ronald Reagan was the 40th President in 1982. He was age 61, just six years older than Franco is now.

Cal Ripken played in the first game of his record breaking streak of 2,632 games on May 30, 1982. It ended in 1998. Ripken retired in 2001, 13 years ago, but Franco is back on the field.

The Ford Escort was the best-selling car.

The Braves, managed by Joe Torre and led by Dale Murphy and Bob Horner, started the 1982 season 13-0.
