Flashback photos: The final days (and destruction) of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium

As the Atlanta Braves announce plans to leave Turner Field for a new facility in Cobb County, here's a look back at the final days of Turner Field's predecessor, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The stadium was demolished following the 1996 Olympics when the Braves moved to the new facility.

One down, one to go. Just one week after the Omni implosion, comes the flattening of Atlanta Fulton County stadium this Saturday at 8 a.m. Steven Pettigrew (left) with Demolition Dynamics, and Chris Walker with D.H. Griffing Wrecking Co. install one of the 1,120 'linear' explosives to be placed on the stadium's steel beams. In addition to the linear explosives, an additional 2,700 'conventional' explosives will be placed on the concrete supports. Crews have been working for the past six weeks to get the stadium ready for implosion. The blast sequence will take 27 seconds with explosives going off sequentially starting at the north end and ending at the south end.
