The next two years will be rocky ones for East Cobb County residents, who’ll soon have to contend with two major construction projects along Terrell Mill Road.
The Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority is replacing a water main that runs beneath the existing roadway, a project which already started Sept. 19 and will cost a total of $42 million. That project is scheduled to be completed in late 2017.
Shorter sections of that project will also impact Lower Roswell Road. During the construction, portions of the road will be barricaded and traffic will be shifted to other lanes.
Meanwhile, beginning in the first quarter of next year, the Cobb County School District is going to be constructing new buildings to relocate Brumby Elementary and East Cobb Middle School. Both are to be built on a 33-acre parcel on — you guessed it — Terrell Mill Road.

The schools are planned to open at the start of the school year in 2017.
Unfortunately, Terrell Mill Road is a key east-west artery in an already congested area of north Atlanta. Cobb County Schools spokeswoman Lauretta Hannon said the school system will work with Cobb County Department of Transportation and the Water Authority to minimize traffic impact.
“Our school construction should not have significant impacts, but we are mindful of peak hour traffic and will attempt to avoid any major disruptions during those times,” Hannon said in an email. “In addition, all bus routes of the affected schools have been reviewed, and proper adjustments have been made.”
Of course, road construction won't be the only impact of the school relocations. After they open, many area residents fear that traffic will routinely back up due to all the parents dropping off and picking up their children.
