A 15-year-old Washington High School student was arrested on charges he brought ammunition onto the campus Wednesday morning.
According to the Atlanta police, the school security officer was told that the teenager, who is not identified because of his age, had bullets. As the officer and the principal were escorting the teen to the office, “he made an attempt to pass a tan plastic bag to another student who was walking down the hallway in the opposite direction.
Inside the bag the security officer found 16 9mm rounds, according to APD.
The school was immediately put on a “soft lock down” while officials searched for a gun. None was found and the lock down was lifted about 2 1/2 hours later.
Atlanta Public Schools spokesman James Malone said in an email just before 11:30 a.m. that “all students and staff are safe.”
The teen is being held on charges of making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. He is at the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center.
