Texas Republican congressman Mike McCaul voiced his serious concern for a potential terror attack during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

"I've never seen a greater threat, certainly in my lifetime. ... I think there's a high degree of probability that something will detonate, something will go off." (Via Fox News)

McCaul referenced the two bombings last December in Volgograd that killed 30 and injured hundreds more. He also discussed Sochi's proximity to an area with a history of Chechen rebel violence. (Via RT)

McCaul is the chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and has been voicing his concerns about security in Sochi for months — concerns echoed by many other conservatives on Capitol Hill.

New York Republican Rep. Peter King said on Face the Nation, "It's still, I believe, a dangerous situation. ... The worst thing we can, in any way, is if anyone let their guard down." (Via CBS)

Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised safety at the games, saying the Olympic Village is enclosed by a Ring of Steel, which reportedly includes more than 100,000 security officials. (Via ABC)

The Winter Olympics in Sochi opened Friday and will continue through Feb. 23.
