Most of the time, it's best to listen to a dog's owner when they ask you not to pet their dog.

The Simcoe Reformer reported that Ontario Provincial Police say the 51-year-old man approached the dog's owner and asked to pet the dog, but was warned multiple times not to do so.

Police said the man kneeled down and got face to face with the dog, reaching over to pet the dog, when he was bitten in the face.

“When people say don't pet my dog, don't,” OPP Constable Lisa Narancsik told the Simcoe Reformer.

The man went to the hospital with a laceration on his lip.

Police say the owner won't be charged.

Narancsik said the dog will be quarantined for 10 days in accordance with procedure. The quarantine will be in the owner's home.
