A power station in England was severely damaged after a large building collapsed at the facility.

The BBC reports that authorities are referring to the Didcot Power Station situation that unfolded Tuesday afternoon as a "major incident" and casualties are feared.

Sky News, citing the Thames Valley Fire Control Service, reports that one person is dead, three people are missing and five people are in the hospital.

According to The Guardian, officials say that despite earlier reports, there was no explosion at the power station. The facility was being prepared for demolition, and authorities are searching for clues as to why the collapse occurred earlier than planned.

Officials say the dust that was generated by the collapse is not hazardous to nearby residents.

Emergency services are responding to the scene.

According to The Independent, the power station was decommissioned in 2013.
